초록 The purpose of this research is to study how positive valve overlap affects the exhaust residual gas, effective release energy and performance of motorcycle engines. To achieve this goal, an experimental system is installed with a dynamo testing system, and a simulation model is established using AVL-Boost software. The simulation model is used to determine the residual gas ratio, effective release energy, and engine performance in variable valve timing and engine speed bands. In this research, the valve overlap is increased from a 10 degree to 90 degree crank angles. The engine testing speed band is from 2000 rpm – 10000 rpm. The effect of valve over lap in three cases IVEO, EVLO and IVEO & EVLO on engine performance with low engine speed (2000 rpm), midle engine speed (5000 rpm) and high engine speed (8000 rpm) also were studied. The results show that positive valve overlap has a significant effect on residual gas ratio, effective release energy and engine performance. When valve overlap angle changes, the residual gas ratio and effective release energy change in various trends of engine speed.
