초록 The Taguchi method and finite element analysis were applied to minimize the thermal deformation of an automotive brake disc, considering heat transfer from the contacting friction pads and thermal stresses. High thermal stresses were generated at the area with high temperature inside the hat of ventilated disc and vanes. Based on the results from finite element analysis, an improved new design for the brake disc which could drop thermal deformations were suggested by optimizing the existing disc shape using the SN (signal to noise) ratio of Taguchi method. The higher SN ratio means small thermal deformation and MINITAB program was used for calculating SN ratios.
