초록 Volatile organic compounds(VOCs) have been known to be among the major contributors to air pollution. Catalytic oxidation is a promising way to remove VOCs, but it is highly desirable to proceed at a low temperature due to the energy savings, operating cost, and environmental issue concerns. Platinum group metals(PGMs) are widely employed as active components for the catalytic oxidation of VOCs, but their high cost hampers their industrial applications. As transition metal oxides have also been known to be good oxidation catalysts, they can perhaps replace the PGM-based catalysts for use in VOC removal. In this work, various cerium-zirconium-mixed oxides(CZ) containing other transition metals were synthesized and evaluated for their catalytic activity on benzene oxidation. Copper and silver synergistically enhanced the benzene oxidation performance through a bifunctional mechanism. CZ containing copper and silver catalysts is a potential candidate for replacing the PGM catalyst for use in low-temperature VOC oxidation.
