초록 The performance of the urea thawing system, which utilizes engine coolant as the heat source, highly depends on the coolant conditions(mass flow rate and temperature) and the coolant pipe configuration. Therefore, in this study, the coolant condition of the EPA test cycle result was introduced to set a realistic heating condition, and four heating pipe configurations were compared to provide insight on designing a urea coolant pipe. To build a boundary condition of a numerical model of the urea heating system, an experiment for the base configuration was conducted, and its numerical model was verified by comparing the amount of thawed urea with the experiment result. Interestingly, case 4(the center return pipe configuration) showed the largest thawed urea in the initial 40 minutes after engine start-up, but case 2(the outer return pipe configuration) had the largest afterwards.
