A conventional four-cylinder, 1.6 L stock CI engine that runs on straight-run gasoline fuel with higher reactivity was calibrated by using a DoE(Design of Experiments) test under global operating conditions, prior to the final calibration on a roller test cell. Final vehicle tests were conducted on a vehicle that was adapted to the new fuel specificities. Based on the roller tests, it was concluded that the straight-run gasoline fuel that ran on a compression ignition(GCI) engine could fulfill the Euro 6d standard with the further possibility of CO2 benefits(reaching the 2025 CO2 target in Europe). Moreover, vehicle simulation was used to address the possibility of combining GCI with hybrid electric technologies to meet the European CO2 target by 2030. The target was reached by using a 48 V 1 kWh battery, P2 architecture, and the re-optimization of the vehicle control unit for further advantage. The after-treatment system(ATS) control logic was also optimized to comply with new pollutant standards. |
