In recent years, as the thermal management system of electric vehicles becomes important, the use of electric water pumps has started increasing. However, EWP’s low heat dissipation performance is due to the integrated structure of the controller, thus causing reduced efficiency and durability. This study presents the outcomes of an experimental investigation on the heat transfer characteristics of a motor housing with extended surfaces of various fin geometries. The experimental data pertaining to heat transfer have been collected as natural and forced convection for engraved fins, embossed fins or horizontal fins, and vertical fins. The results were compared with the average temperature and the maximum temperature. Engraved fins have better heat dissipation properties than embossed fins. These have the effect of reducing the temperature of the PCB and the connector because more heat is dissipated due to exposure to high temperature. Also, the performance of the horizontal fins and vertical fins changed under the convection. |
