Vehicle fuel economy is one of key indicator which influences the customers’ awareness for vehicle performance and marketability. So, it becomes one of the significant criteria when the customers decide to purchase the vehicle. Meanwhile, fuel cost has been increased as fossil fuel depleted, and global CO2/Fuel economy regulation also has been reinforced to cope with Global warming. These are the motivations for each Automakers to investigate the methodology for more efficient and practical ways of CO2 reduction and Fuel economy improvement. Generally, engine efficiency improvement, vehicle friction reduction, low rolling resistance tire development, aerodynamics performance improvement and mass reduction are well known as the universal solutions for combustion engines. However, the expected improvement may not be achieved due to variation of fuel economy test even though fuel economy has been improved at a lot of development cost. The purpose of this paper is to find the causes of fuel economy test variation and to analyze the main contributor so that more robust fuel economy test results can be obtained. For this purpose, the Red X technique was utilized among several analysis methods.
