The purpose of this study is to find the relevance between automobile designs and the design works of Bauhaus, which has been rarely mentioned so far. First, the study outlined the era of the industrial revolution and changes in technology as backgrounds in forming the Deutsche Werkbund and Bauhaus designs with their ideas and concepts. With the bases of the observations, a parallel study has been done as the backgrounds of the form factor from Le Corbusier and Walter Gropius related to DWB and Bauhaus. Based on the result of the study on the automobiles designed by these entities, relevance between the characteristics of the automotive designs and the designs of Bauhaus decreased. The results are as follows: the designs of Bauhaus and other automobile designs were not fundamentally different in pursuing efficiency and pragmatism in relation to the requirements of the mass production industry era, even if they looked different from each other. |
