The role of armrests is important whether you are in the driver’s seat or just resting in the backseat. In the convenience survey conducted for the general population, the demand for seat armrests was consistently rated as important. Most vehicles are equipped with armrests around the door trim and the center console. In the future, mobility seats will include long sliding and swivel functions. Various movements, such as changes in relaxation mode, are expected, and for the door trim and the center console, where existing armrests are, it is no longer possible to implement just the basic function of the armrest. Customers are seeking different convenience functions when moving, so providing the comfort function to the armrest can increase customer satisfaction. This paper explored the feasibility of the electric folding armrest to please customers while they are seated. Various movements can be implemented to existing seats with minimum motor functions. The basic operating concept is on the side of the seat when boarding, and is deployed to the chosen position when fastening the seatbelt. There will be manual and automatic modes. The manual mode can be fine-tuned through a switch, and there are four automatic modes to ensure both safety and marketability. |
