Key Words Rear Brake Caliper, Abnormal Noise, Noise Reduction
초록 This paper describes a study of improvement of abnormal noise of rear brake caliper. The demand for electric vehicles is increasing worldwide, and as the transition from existing internal combustion engines to electric vehicles increases, the weight of batteries increases, resulting in an increase in the overall weight of the vehicle. Accordingly, the torque applied to the front and rear calipers during braking is increasing. For this reason, the frequency of abnormal noise (sounds like ‘ddack’) occurring during initial braking in electric vehicles is ncreasing, and several improvement plans were evaluated to reduce or remove this noise.
First of all, an analysis of the mechanism by which noise occurs during initial braking was conducted. ODS (Operating Deflection Shapes) analysis was performed by installing vibration sensors on the pad, torque member, and caliper body. Then, the 7 samples were made and evaluated to improve the noise.
As a result of the evaluation, as the pad liner's supporting force in the disk rotation direction increased, the amount of pad vibration decreased, thereby reducing the noise. Increased friction between the piston and pad shim has the effect of improving noise, but the effect was insignificant compared to the increase in pad liner’s supporting force.
Additionally, the conditions under which the noise is likely to occur are that the frequency increases as the temperature is low and the humidity is high. Also, the frequency increased when the gap between the torque member and the pad exceeded a certain level.
