Electro-Hydraulic Brake system (EHB) replace conventional vacuum boosters with electric motor–driven actuation and integrate braking control functions into a single unit. In such systems, a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) generates hydraulic pressure by converting motor torque into linear motion through a mechanical transmission. Reliable motor operation is therefore essential to ensure stable braking performance and vehicle safety. However, abnormal conditions such as motor stuck can prevent the motor from generating the required motion, potentially degrading braking performance. This study proposes a motor stuck detection method for an EHB based on motor current characteristics. The proposed approach utilizes current mapping derived from the relationship between motor current and motor displacement, and evaluates the consistency between the commanded motion and the actual motor behavior. An optimal distance control concept is applied to determine the expected motor movement and detect abnormal deviations caused by a stuck condition. By analyzing the PMSM current response and motion characteristics, the algorithm identifies motor stuck conditions without requiring additional hardware sensors. Experimental validation was conducted under various operating conditions of the EHB. The results demonstrate that the proposed method can effectively detect motor stuck conditions while maintaining robustness against normal operating variations. This approach contributes to improving the diagnostic capability and functional safety of electric brake systems by providing a reliable motor stuck detection strategy. |
