초록 Accurate prediction of snow tire performance has traditionally focused on acceleration and braking conditions.
However, lateral grip characteristics under slip conditions are critical for maintaining vehicle stability on snow-covered roads,
where understeer or oversteer may occur. This study presents a finite element analysis-based approach to predict tire lateral grip
performance under snow handling conditions. A numerical model replicating real vehicle test scenarios was developed to estimate
the lateral force generated perpendicular to the steering direction. The proposed model was validated against snow handling test
data obtained in Gangwon Province, South Korea. The results show a correlation exceeding 80% between numerical predictions
and experimental measurements. These findings demonstrate that the proposed approach provides a reliable and effective
framework of predicting tire handling performance on snow-covered surfaces.
